Braemar Blasters Volunteer Policy and Procedures
Here is a description of all the volunteer committee duties.
Parent volunteers are critical to the success of Braemar Blasters’ swim meets. Competitive swimming requires parents to be actively involved in all aspects of our swim meets. Volunteering is a requirement for participation on our team.
The Braemar Blasters require that at least one parent from each family volunteer as directed by the Board and/or the Committee Head. For families with four or more children, we ask that you sign up for two volunteer positions. The position you are assigned will be your position for the entire summer season at both home and away meets, as needed. Committee Heads will contact those families on their rosters to assign shifts for the meets. Parents who ONLY have a MicroBlasters swimmer will sign up for a volunteer position for our Micro meet later in the season.
At the meet, volunteers must check in with the Meet Manager at the beginning of the meet and their Committee Head 15 minutes before their shift. This is crucial to the smooth running of a meet so that the Meet Manager knows who is ready for their shift and alleviates the Meet Manager from trying to find replacements during the meet.
The Board understands that there may be circumstances that conflict with this obligation. Please keep your Committee Head informed so that there are no misunderstandings. We cannot run these meets without the assistance of every family.
If a volunteer is unable to fulfill their volunteer commitment for a meet, they must contact the Committee Head. This would cover illness, vacations, business trips, emergencies, etc. If there is advanced notice, the volunteer should seek out coverage for his/her shift and alert their Committee Head to staffing changes. If the volunteer is unable to find coverage, the Committee Head should be alerted and seek out coverage. If no coverage is found, the Committee Head will alert the Meet Manager. If there is a last-minute change due to an emergency, the volunteer needs to call or text their Committee Head.
Not fulfilling your commitment may affect your swimmer's future participation as a member of the Braemar Blasters Swim Team the following year.
If the volunteer does not notify the appropriate team members of their absence and/or fails to perform their volunteer commitment when attending a meet, then the following consequences may occur:
- First occurrence
- Written warning
- Will be required to be available at the next home meet as a floater, in addition to their normal volunteer commitment
- Second occurrence
- Suspension of early registration
- Three or more occurrences
- Unable to register the following year
For extenuating circumstances regarding the above consequences, please contact the Braemar Blasters board.
